Busy busy bee

I'm back. The trip went well, but was busy as ever. We had three full days to cram in our family and friends as well as graduation, a graduation party, and a surprise 16th birthday party. Phew! Drew probably had the most fun. He never gets to go off leash here because we don't have our own yard, but both grandmas have big yards (in fact my mom lives on 10 acres), so he had fun running and chasing birds and playing with the other dogs. He actually got cranky at night because he played so hard and never had his nap. :) Suffice it to say, I didn't actually get any work done, but I never really thought I would anyway. I did do a little reading on the drive, which was nice. I finished Interpreter of Maladies and started Sixpence House, which is interesting reading for a booklover.
I'm trying to get back into the swing of things, but we're still really busy here. I had my follow-up blood test yesterday so my doctor can see how my thyroid is doing. Still scared of needles, apparently. Today I'm making dinner (calzones) and cake for my best friend whose birthday fell this weekend while we were gone, so it will be fun to catch up tonight. Tomorrow Drew has his first grooming appointment, so I'm going to take that free time to go run errands and possibly write at the coffee shop. Friday two of my little sisters arrive to visit for a week and a half. And Saturday I have the second bridal shower of the summer. It's going to be a bumper week (or two)!
Yesterday I (finally) finished the edit of chapter two and I'm planning to continue the writing on that chapter today. It was interesting reading through it as I edited. I don't feel like it is as strong as chapter one yet, but I did spend a lot of time rewriting chapter one and I haven't done that yet with chapter two. However, there were little underlying storylines and themes that I didn't intentionally write into the story that pleasantly surprised me. I think the writing needs work, but I like the story itself and where I am going with it. I opened chapter three to start the editing for it (again from past to present tense) and was surprised that it is already 2/3 written and better than chapter two. I forgot how much I already wrote for some of the chapters. I guess jumping around in the story does have its benefits.

Nice to "see" you back. I can guess you are quite busy. So go ahead with your writing.

Hellojed, still adding some length to chapter two, but I was glad to finish the major edit. I think I'm going to attack it with a pen today....
Thanks alfaking. Must buckle down with the writing today!

Ooh, Angie, you sound back on form. Glad to read things are going well. One of the good things I found about needing blood tests for thyroid, was that I realised I made more fuss than was warranted. Yes, I don't like them, but I got more anxious than I needed to. Once I realised the anxiety was worse than the needle, I relaxed a bit!

Thanks JJ. I know what you mean about the needles - I had to get a series of shots in college and it really wasn't so bad, the anticipation was much worse than the shot itself. I'm hoping next time I'll relax more.
