Feeling guilty

We're driving up to Oregon tomorrow for a wedding this weekend - my mother in law is getting remarried and they're having a casual intimate ceremony at their home. We decided this week that it would be best for us and for Lucy if we gave her to another family. There were a couple of people who wanted her if we didn't take her, and the family who is taking her has two little girls and couldn't afford to buy one of the dogs, so she'll be going to a good home. I just hate it that we're 'neglecting' her. I know we're not really since we wouldn't give her up if she wasn't going to a good home, but I feel like we rushed into the decision to take her (even though it took weeks to make) and now we're being irresponsible. I think Drew and Lucy will have a hard time initially next week, but I think it will be better for both of them. We don't have a yard here, though there is communal grass, so the dogs have to be on leash at all times. When we only had Drew that didn't cause much problem, but taking two dogs out on leash to potty and walk is a fiasco every time. Plus we'll be able give Drew more attention/exercise when it's just him again. Anyway, we're both feeling a little gutted because we love little Lucy, but it's just too much work and our place is too small and I'm writing at home so I've got very little work done since lil Lu arrived. We're meeting the family at the wedding on Saturday, so hopefully seeing the happy faces of two little girls will help alleviate my sadness and guilt.

Anyway, the dogs are snoozing right now, so I really better get to the writing.

Oh that's a shame, but it really sounds like you're thinking of Lucy's well-being the whole time. I hope you're not feeling bad about the decision and that you enjoy the wedding.

Hi Angie
Wanted to drop by and say hello as I'm back to blogging now. I was going to leave a comment on the Harry Potter post, but was too scared in case I see a spoiler! Won't get to it now 'til Husband's finished with it.
Back soon

Hi Angie, Hullaballoo back and blogging.

Summer weddings are lush, enjoy your family. Lucy is a lucky dog to have such caring owners, aww. And you can always get her a fabby doggy gift on your return.

You're doing the right thing, Ang. Lucy will adjust and be happy with her new family. I understand how you are feeling, but just remember that it will be best for you, the husband, Drew, and little Lucy in the end.

We got a little puppy when all my boys were quite little. It was a big mistake - and one day when I found the twins urinating on the poor puppy's head we decided that he'd be much happier elsewhere.

Luckily he was so cute that lots of people wanted him. I ended up giving him to my father ...and they are both very happy now :)

though it was quite heartbreaking at the time.

Good luck - and I'm sure you're doing the right thing by Lucy!!

Thanks for all the lovely comments, everyone! I really appreciate the support.
Hellojed, the wedding was a blast and pretty crazy actually considering it was my in-laws :)

JJ, welcome back to blogland! I don't think there are any spoilers, but I understand because I was avoiding everything HP related until I finished the book. Hope you like it!

Hullaballoo, glad to see you're back too. We may have to spoil her on a return visit. :)

Kris, thanks. It was a relief not to do 15 million potty breaks today. It's 5pm and we've done 1! Hurrah!

Rebecca, the image of your twins cracked me up. They sound like a handful! Also sounds like something husband and his brother/best friend would've done when they were young!
