Adulterous stories

I'm having adulterous longings for a new story idea. I've tried to resist because a new idea always appeals more until you hit the first roadblock of the story. I have a habit of starting things and not finishing, but I'm determined to finish this novel! However, I've been making really slow progress on my current WIP, so I finally decided to start the new story on the side. My plan is to continue on the current novel, working on it every morning, but when I stall I'll start work on the new novel. I'm hoping that this will help refresh my creativity. Plus, the current WIP is very draining for two reasons: 1) there is a lot of sadness in the story, and 2) part of it takes place in the 1940s, so it takes a lot of work to make sure the prose/characters/story feel authentic. If I can work on the second story, which is less intense, and make some progress, I think it might build up my conifidence that I can do this. I've also been longing for a pretty new notebook and pens, so I went to Borders last night--which carries a small Paperchase section--and bought a pretty notebook for the new story along with a really nice, slightly spendy pen. I never spring for spendy pens, but this one was too pretty to resist and it writes so smoothly. I also bought a cute monsters pen for packing around with my notebook since the fancy pen was a bit fat and heavy.

Oh, and Happy Birthday Drew! He turns one today. :) Tomorrow we're having a birthday bbq for him, complete with a doggy birthday cake. (Tonight I have *another* bachelorette, so his party had to be postponed.)

I don't it does any harm at all to put one WIP aside to work on something else. So long as the creative cogs are turning, you'll be just fine :)

Yay, then it's confirmed, I'm doing the right thing! Thanks, Jen.
