To send or not to send

Christmas cards.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, and I like letting friends and family know that I'm thinking about them at the holidays. Yet, I feel guilted into sending cards to the 'obligation list' of people too. You know the ones: the people you don't talk to any other time of year, but have some tenuous connection with. I decided to opt out this year and avoid all that, but husband changed his mind last minute and decided we should send them, which as usual meant that I should write and send them. Men! Ugh. Luckily I knocked it out in one blow while watching House. Not bad. (I admit, I did make him lick the envelopes. I despise licking envelopes. Ick.) I also finished chapter 6 yesterday. Hurrah! (Finally! Sheesh that chapter ended up long...)

Things have been a little crazy around here, so I'll probably be lying low until after the holidays, though I reserve the right to check in if I have an itching desire to share some random thoughts with you.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and all that!

Brava on completing your Christmas cards! Well done. I know I was relieved when I finished mine. It's nice to send them out to the people you love this time of year, but I agree with you about all of those peripheral folks who you feel obligated to send cards to, but just don't want to and don't know what to write to them, anyway. Sigh. I had quite a few of those this time around, but I chickened out of taking a stand and just went ahead and sent them cards. It was quite a bit of work and a pretty penny in postage! Oh dear, I'm starting to sound like old Scrouge. So I'll end on a happier note by saying Merry Christmas and can't wait to see you!

I was glad to get it done, and I hate sounding like a scrooge because I heart Christmas, but I'm so busy this year it's taking some of the fun out of it. I guess that comes with getting older.
And postage! Pah, I could've bought more gifts with all the postage I paid to ship packages this year. =p
Fly safely, m'dear, and see you soon!

Merry Christmas to you too Sweetie.

I don't send cards either. People have stopped expecting them now. Well, the ones who are still talking to me, that is ;0)

After splitting from my husband this May, Christmas has had a bitter sweet quality this year. This has made it hard to send Christmas cards, so the whole thing has been a bit hit and miss.

I have been touched by the unexpected cards I have received, at my new address, written only to me. Friends are still out there and they still care. What I choose to build on that in 2008 is up to me.

happy Christmas to you and your family.

Lane, Happy New Year, may you have many hours of Gregory House to look forward to! ;) Hope you had a happy Christmas too.

Jen, I need to figure out how to remove any expectations (of course, they're mostly self-imposed with my giant guilt complex).

Hullaballoo, big events like that make Christmas both a difficult time of year and a blessing when friends and family support you. I hope you enjoyed your first Christmas in your new place.

Alfa King, thanks, we had a great holiday season. I hope yours was enjoyable as well. And it felt great to finish my chapter before the new year.

Alix, thanks for the congrats. Hope your holidays were enjoyable and relaxing too.

Hellojed and Caroline, thanks and happy new year to you too!
