Editing

I've decided the major problem with my novel is that the voice is wrong. I'm currently writing it in third person past tense, which seemed appropriate when I started, but as I'm trying to continue the writing, I keep hitting snags and feeling like something isn't right. Yesterday I began a test edit switching the voice to third person present tense to see if that would solve the voice problem, and it seems to be doing the trick. I will now be spending my time editing chapter one and two to the present tense (as well as the other 9 chapters that have been started in some form or another) before I continue on with new writing. Who ever thought writing a novel would be so much work? Just kidding, of course...To add to my problems, it's sunny and 70 degrees outside and I'm trying to buckle down and get some work done while I wistfully look out the window at the lovely day. Maybe I should take the dog out on leash and camp out on a bench with my laptop so I can enjoy the weather and work.

Great that you've found a breakthrough! Good luck. The weather has turned here recently but for ages the sun was splitting the trees, which was tough going.

Ugh, glad your 'voice' is working out... it's so disheartening when the writing seems like 'real' work...

Hellojed, thanks!

Jen, writing should be fun, not work, right? Ah we all know that's not always true, but it should be!
