Eight things meme...

Okay, I’ve been tagged by hellojed. These are the rules:

THE RULES
1. All right, here are the rules.
2. We have to post these rules before we give you the facts.
3. Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
4. People who are tagged write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
5. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to tag and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

One. I absolutely cannot stand brocolli. I will actually claim to be allergic to it when in a restaurant because it guarantees it won't arrive with my food; this probably sounds bad, but I figure I can claim an allergy since it literally makes me puke every time I eat it. (When I was in preschool I had a very traumatic incident where my teacher forced me to eat brocolli even though I told her it makes me throw up, and when I threw up on her, I got punished.)

Two. As you may have noticed on this blog, I adore my dog Drew, but this has been a shock to my family and friends because I was always the girl who did not like dogs growing up, which of course meant that dogs always followed me around. I couldn't stand it (still can't really) when dogs jump up on you, drool or lick you, etc. I've since discovered that like children, I really only dislike badly behaved dogs (and truthfully I still don't like yappers or dogs with drooling problems).

Three. I always wanted to be a writer, even though I only admitted it to family and the very closest of friends. Ever since I discovered that you could be a writer, I've wanted to be one. I used to write a series of children's books for my sisters about a group called the 'Sunshine Gang' (very original, I know) and I would illustrate them and give them as gifts. Once I graduated high school, I managed to supress my desire to be a writer and attempted to find a more useful career, but I was only able to supress the desire for a few years and I ended up majoring in English and minoring in writing.

Four. I grew up in central Oregon where it rains very infrequently, but I moved to western Oregon for college where it rains about 9-10 months of the year. I thought it would be fine because I like rain and thunderstorms, but it basically 'mists' rain all day every day and even an umbrella is useless. I decided I don't like living in the rain, yet...

Five. I want to live in London more than any other place in the world. I love the architecture, the history, the theater, the museums, and the literature that originated from there. I lived there for a study abroad term in college and I've had the itch to move back ever since.

Six. Blue is my absolute favorite color, but I have wavered for yellow (and once for pink - shh don't tell!).

Seven. I love red wine and would drink a glass every night, but it gives me migraines...of course that doesn't stop me from trying! (Same goes for diet soda or anything made with fake sugar....)

Eight. I am an absolute control freak. I used to be in denail, but my friends never stopped pointing out the fact, so I now freely and proudly admit it. I am also a clean freak and found that one of my greatest difficulties when I started writing at home was resisting the urge to clean the house constantly so it always stays spotless.

Okay, I think most people have been tagged for this meme, but I don't recall Helen doing it...

Brilliant 8 things, really enjoyed them - I remember eating Frosties one morning and then puking all over my French teacher's shoes...not good.

By the way I thought it was a good writing exercise, mainly because it's always good to come out with unusual facts about a character - describing someone as a lover of sunshine and chocolate just doesn't cut it - so I reckon we both did a great job!

(No 3 - Exact same for me!)

Hi Angie

I do love reading memes.

I remember being forced to eat spotted dick (really unfortunately named British pudding) by a dinner lady when I was 11. Sadly, I wasn't sick on her.

Hellojed, it is a good writing exercise and would probably be a good trick for getting to know characters. (I wonder how many other hidden writers are out there?)

JJ, we had spotted dick for my friend's birthday while in England and I did think it was tasty (and snickered inappropriately at the wonderful name). My host mum pointed out birds in her garden, including a 'blue tit', and husband and I couldn't help but laugh. Americans are not used to such wonderfully named things.

Hi Angie - just got back from my holiday. I'll have a go at this meme. Looks interesting. I might learn something about myself!
