Pesky words and hormones

Still here, trying to translate the story in my mind into words on the page. Trying to find the words to my story has left me few words for blogging. I've also been fannying about more than usual because I've been so immensely tired the last three days and have no concentration. It's almost as if my thyroid levels dropped, which would be strange because I took a blood test last week and my doctor called Tuesday to let me know that my thyroid level was finally back in the normal range. Yay! It only took 4.5 months. I feel like I'm 90% back to normal, but she said this is typical too, and it may take a few more months for my body to catch up to my thyroid. Woo and indeed hoo. I'm betting my energy levels this week have more to do with increasing exercise and cutting calories than with a drop in my thyroid levels, but thanks to that pesky thyroid, I need to cut the pounds I gained when my thyroid wasn't working properly. Vicious cycle. Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, trying to get my story onto the page. Better get back to it instead of blathering on here. Carry on, then.

Hope you feel better very, very soon! Great news about your thyroid level, I hope you can see the end of the tunnel?

I had/have a thyroid problem too. I bought a book called Your Thyroid and how to keep it healthy by Dr Barry Durrant - Peatfield. Anyhow, he recommended an atkins type diet or a low GI one...(as opposed to cutting calories) - which is what I'm doing now and you know what it is working AND i still have energy. He does detail the science bit as to why it is good for people with thyroid problems but I won't repeat that here 'cos I don't understand it!. I also took some vitamin supplements too which really work. I've lost two stone since:)

Apologies if you have already explored this route and I'm giving you advice you already know. x

Hellojed, thank you. It is great news and I can see the light dimly in the distance - however, 90% is SO much better than how I felt last winter/spring!

Helen, I appreciate the advice and will look into that book. Sounds interesting. It's amazing how many of us are out there! I bought two thyroid books and they have commentary on diets for hypothyroids, but I haven't gotten that far.... I'm a bit anti-Atkins, but I think some of the other low-carb diets are sensible, and actually I've discovered that while cutting calories I'm adding more veggies and proteins and cutting more carbs to get my count lower. I can't give up bread and pasta completely though (I'm part Italian, don't you know :), but I switched to healthy unprocessed whole grains years ago, so I don't think it's necessary. All things in moderation. That said, you've had brilliant results and it sounds like something I should look into. Btw, how long did it take for you to feel normal again?

A bit of a blog blather sometimes works wonders for loosening the fingers.

Keep positive and be kind to yourself - you'll be 100% before you know it.

Jen, that's true, I should use the blog to blather when I'm struggling with getting words out. Thanks for the encouragement!
