Half-Dark

I sit in the silent half-dark attempting to polish a story, while keeping one eye trained on Drew who lies in his bed beside me staring pathetically at our house guests who lie sleeping late into the morning. He lets out an occasional whimper, unsure why they would want to continue sleeping at 10:30 when he's already run, eaten his breakfast and is available to play. Working at home in a one-bedroom apartment is challenging enough on a normal day, but when we have guests, especially guests like my sister who like to sleep in until 11am, it makes things nearly impossible.

Oh wow, I work from a one bedroomed apartment too and it is near impossible to do anything with guests - kudos for your effort. I'm an early riser myself. ;) Hope you survive the visit!

Yvonne, we'll see how much I actually accomplish this week. I want to submit this story for a comp, and it's due Saturday, so I do have some external motivation.
I'm not a super early riser, but I am up before 8 each morning, so it is painful to sit here in the dark. Thanks! :)

That sounds difficult - for you and Drew.

Good luck with getting the story off in time.

I hope you've stashed your cereal whilst you have guests btw:-)

Lane, Drew suffers dramatically. ;)
Thanks. My fingers are crossed that I'll get it sent in on time...it's taking ages to finish.
The cereal is most definitely hidden away safely. :)

I live in a one bedroom apartment too. It's hard having guests, I feel for you. I end up standing in the hall and trying to pretend it is a larger space than it is.

My favourite haven is the bathroom with a whole pile of candles, a tasty snack and something suitably scandalous and trashy to read.

Hullaballoo, the bathroom is a great escape in such a small space...I haven't tried snacking in there yet, though candles, wine, and a book in the bath are fantastic. :)
I love visitors, but it's so tight...we end up standing in the dining room/office, or sitting on the living room floor to make the space feel larger. haha. Ah well, it's nice to have my office back. I'm trying to catch up on everything.
